On Thursday 22nd June, 2010 Pt England School found out what it would be like if a disaster occured in Auckland.
Under the creative genius of our associate principal,
Mr Garth Jacobsen,  Pt England School was led through a day of suspense and anticipation - including a real evacuation!

This is how the day unfolded:

9.30 AM

Everyone was in their classrooms.  School was going on as normal when an earthquake was felt!
We could hear the noise over the loud speakers in the classrooms and everyone scrambled to get under desks and in doorways.  When nothing else happened classes resumed.

10.30 AM

A second shake was felt. This was followed up by a special announcement on PENN, Pt England Schools television channel.

The ENTIRE school headed for higher ground at Ruapotaka School - the designated evacuation centre for the school. Grateful thanks to the Glen Innes Police for their escort.

2.00 PM

Finally the "all clear" was received and the students and staff of Pt England School began the downhill march back to school.  Thankfully no people nor property were damaged.
We all had our eyes opened about what would be required of us if a real disaster occured.

Thanks to Auckland Museum for their support and sharing resources for this.

Thanks also to Glenn Innes Police and Ruapotaka School.
